By air
The main air hub of
Armenia is Zvartnots International airport in Yerevan, which is
located about 15 km far from the city center.
There are regular flights to and from Yerevan organized by the
below listed air carriers:
Armenian International Airlines, Aeroflot Russian Airlines, Air
France, Armavia, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Czech
Airlines, Lufthansa, etc. All these airlines offer connecting
flights to every major city in the world.
National carrier of
Armenia is Armavia and it is 100% privately owned. Yerevan and
following cities are connected by above listed air carriers:
Aleppo (Syria),
Amsterdam, Athens, Beirut, Berlin, Dubai, Moscow, Paris, Rome,
Istanbul, Larnaca, Riga, Tel-Aviv, Tehran, Lyon, Saloniki and
many CIS cities.
By train
It is also possible to
get Armenia by train. You can take an overnight train to
Tbilisi, Georgia but train links with Turkey and Azerbaijan are
severed. Please be informed that trains leaving Moscow arrive in
Armenia via Georgia so you might need a visa to this country
depending on your nationality.
It is planned to build a train between Armenia and Iran
which will let Armenia to have an alternative railway system to
foreign countries. At the moment Armenia’s railway system reach
other countries only via Georgia.
By land
Armenia/Georgia
Georgia is main transit hub in Caucasus between Armenia,
Azerbaijan and Turkey as borders between Armenia and Turkey,
Azerbaijan are closed. To travel from Armenia to Azerbaijan is
possible through Georgia. Two highway routes are available
through Georgia, which provide access to the Black Sea Ports of
Batumi and Poti.
While border crossing
from Georgia into Armenia, border formalities in Georgian side
takes less (15-20) than it takes in Armenian side.
